SDC tutors training program
We have 10 student development centres functioning in the CherangodePanchayath&Nelliyalam municipality. These centres are focused on improving educational capabilities of the children and also to help them attain some key life skills such as problem-solving, communication etc. In these centres, tutors help the students to gain confidence through leadership workshops, and also promote sports for physical wellbeing.
Study materials support program
Koodu Trust conducted an annual survey to identify the right beneficiaries for providing support with study materials. Every year, Koodu Trust offers study materials such as books, notebooks, umbrellas, stationary items and dresses to school going children. This initiative is focused on motivating and supporting children to continue their education.
This initiative is successfully managed with the help of donations from our donors and partnering organizations. We have also continuously track and monitor the status of school going children and intervene if any dropout cases exist.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
Lifeskill development program
Koodu partnered with several learning & training partners to offer life skills to young children. These skills will help the young children to navigate through the practical world. We offered training on the following topics
- Mindfulness
- Yoga
- Communication
- Writing
- Spoken English
This program was well received amongst the children and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Based on the feedback that we received from the children and trainers, we have decided to continue this program on an ongoing basis.
KOODU annual day program
Koodu conducts annual program every year where we invite all the volunteers, donors and beneficiaries to celebrate the outcomes and success of our organization. We also use the function as an opportunity to extend rewards and recognition to our exemplary volunteers. We also announce scholarship programs for deserving children. We invite guest speakers who would speak on different topics as well.
We also have our students from our development centres participate in various singing and dancing competitions. The entire day is filled with fun activities, sessions and lectures that helps the Koodu community bond stronger.
Grocery item support
COVID impacted all of the people in all levels of the society. Due to the lockdown and resulting impact on the supply chain, many people from the poor and marginalized were stranded without any grocery supplies, resulting in a difficult situation. Koodu identified right beneficiaries who desperately were looking for support and delivered grocery items to their door step.
We helped more than 500+ families with grocery supplies for 2+ weeks and this resulted in beneficiaries not risking to venture out for food & supplies, thus having a positive impact on the spread of disease in our locality.
Drinking water program
Koodu partnered with “We Serve” Foundation to create drinking water facilities for 7 households in the Murukkambadi village of CherangodePanchayat. These 7 households are located in remote areas and they did not have enough well or proper drinking water facilities and they had to risk going out in the evenings when animal movements were rampant. This was also done during the COVID season and aimed at reducing risks associated with the search of water and also improving accessibility of drinking water. We were able to organize masons, plumbers and the families to bring drinking water to their homes through taps.
Computer Course
Gaining knowledge about using computer and technology is of paramount importance for tomorrow’s children. While formal education in the government schools focused on some theoretical subjects, this is not enough to sustain on a long-term. Keeping this in mind, Koodu developed a computer education center where we offered computer courses to the children. We also hired teachers and there were at least 500 beneficiaries through this program.
Livelihood support program
In the small villages where Koodu operates, employment opportunities are limited and therefore it is important to create sustainable livelihood programs. Keeping this in mind, we identified some beneficiaries who were below poverty level and supported them with free goats. Rearing goats is a sustainable economy they will be able to sell goat kids and goat milk in the future. We have offered 50+ goats to people in different villages so far
